We started our meeting with new officers. This month’s meeting was led by our new president, Susan Palmer.
Membership dues were up for renewal in July! If you have not paid your due for 2016-2017, please make sure that you take care of them as soon as possible. Dues have increased to $25.00 and are payable by cash or check, in person or by mail. If you need to mail your dues, please contact Barbara Drake for her address or see the Clotho’s News email that was sent out on July 11th for more information. Please make your checks payable to Clotho’s Handspinners.
We discussed the changes to the Skein & Garment Competition for Fall Fiber Festival. Clothos is no longer in charge of this competition and it has been handed over to the Tavern Spinners & Weavers Guild from Heathsville, VA. The deadline for entries into the competition is September 10th, 2016. Please see the Fall Fiber Festival website for entry forms and more information on the adult and youth competitions.
This month we made $36 in the raffle! All proceeds go towards saving our meeting spot and
covering rental costs for our space. If you have an item you’d like to enter into the next raffle,
whether it be fiber related or not, please bring it to the September 17th guild meeting.
We discussed policies about members submitting announcements for the email newsletter. Please contact Debbie Doran if you need to add something to the email newsletter before the next meeting.
Linda Parker shared news about Barbara Gentry. Barbara has been suffering some severe health issues that have taken a toll on her and her family. Fiber friends and family have been asked to check CaringBridge to assist with helping the family with food, meals and assistance with care for her husband. Please keep her in your thoughts. Our program for next meeting has been set. We will be doing a waulking program with Janice Stegall-Seibert for members that would like to watch or participate. The guild will be waulking a fabric that was not utilized in the demonstration during this year’s Powhatan Festival of Fiber.
We need a volunteer to help close up the firehouse at the next meeting. Generally, this is the president’s duty, but Susan needs to leave early. You need to make sure things are cleaned up, the front door is locked, the lights are out and head out the back door.
