Clotho’s Fiber Challenge 2016 for members: Ever fantasize about owning your own sheep? Ever roamed through the sheep barns at Maryland Sheep & Wool, reading the various displays and/ or having questions?
This is the challenge for you! For only $4 ($1 goes to the SOMP (Save Our Meeting Spot) fund), purchase your 2 ounces of fiber (all samples will be in bags with number...you won't know until you open your bag), and discover what breed of sheep you will be working with until May. Clean, prepare, spin your sample, then prepare a swatch (unwashed and unblocked). That is worth 60 points.
The other half of the challenge is creating a small display on the sheep and your spinning/swatch. Information should include origin of breed, typical size of ram and ewe, pictures, wool/meat/milk/dual use, etc. Include details on how you spun (spindle or wheel, twist, spin, etc.) and created your swatch (can be knit, crochet, or woven). Display should be half a poster board to 8.5" x 11" inch paper. This is worth 40 points (and 5 points will be neatness and legibility!).
Then, you can also get bonus points for also creating a washed/blocked swatch (with details on difference between two), creating a finished object, details on the breed association (including contact data), additional sources of fiber (Spinning Loft CANNOT be used as this is the original source) with contact information, and a reasoned review of the fiber and your experience (you can be positive or negative or anywhere in between), but you need to say why.

Meetup runs from 3:30 – 5:30 at Tuckahoe Library (large meeting room), 1901 Starling Dr., Henrico, VA near Regency mall and the I-64/Parham Road interchange.
